Domestic travelers at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) no longer need to remove liquids or large electronics from their bags during security screening, thanks to new CT scanners. Installed on September 4 at checkpoint ABC, these advanced scanners are the first of their kind at a Canadian airport.
YVR stated the new technology allows passengers to pass through security without removing liquids, gels, aerosols, or large electronics, all while maintaining safety standards.
The $30 million upgrade is designed to reduce congestion and speed up screening. Liquids must still be in containers of 100 millilitres or less, all stored in a one-litre clear bag.
The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) plans to roll out more CT scanners across the country, allowing agents to view a 3D image of carry-on bags for easier screening.
